Ģibuļi Rural Territory is the largest rural territory in Talsi Municipality. The administrative centre of Ģibuļi Rural Territory is located in Pastende and it is mentioned in historical sources as early as 1288. Pastende is the most populous area in the parish.
For 444 years Pastende belonged to Hahn family. The Pastende Manor building complex (18th – 19th century) is an architectural monument of national importance and is well maintained. Next to Pastende Manor lies a landscape garden with a pond. During World War II a Nazi concentration camp was located in Pastende Manor; it later was used as a military hospital by Wehrmacht. Currently manor house is used by Pastende Elementary School. The youngest children of the parish are attending Pastende Preschool Educational Institution “Ķipars” were they spend quality time and are preparing for school.
The second most populated place in Ģibuļi Rural Territory is Spāre Village, it was formed next to a railroad in 1888 – 1901. One of two Talsi Municipality’s polders can be found in Spāre. Baron Grothaus Spāre Estate Manor House was built in 1790. Even to this day its beautiful park tells us about its history. Currently Spāre Elementary School is located in the manor house. The cellar of Spāre Manor House is decorated with interesting materials from local history collection.
You can find two monuments of national importance in Spāre Parish – Spāre Evangelical Lutheran Church and farmstead “Līkumi”.
From 19th to 20th century lime and brick-kilns operated in the parish. Sand and clay mining sites are still operational. Rural territory is rich with peat reserves and has the only dolomite stock in Talsi Municipality.
Local entrepreneurs are very active in Ģibuļi Rural Territory. They are producing agricultural products, securing local and international transport services, and agricultural machinery services. Jobs are provided by logging and wood-processing industry, joinery services are provided and tourism industry is growing.
Ģibuļi Rural Territory is rich with lakes. Largest one is Spāre Lake, with 201.1 hectares. Also lakes Kalvene, Dāķi, Egļi, Buļļi, Vēži, Ziloņi etc. give joy to travellers and fishermen. Dzelzupe, Vidusupe, Stende, Abava and other smaller rivers meanders through parish.
Pastende Culture House, Spāre People’s House, as well as Pastende and Spāre libraries are maintaining active cultural life of surrounding communities. Young and old alike have a chance to perform in vocal ensembles, dance groups, amateur drama groups, improvisational theatre, rural music band or learn the basics of drawing, take part in dance sport, become a member of an interest group, go to exhibitions or social gatherings. Anyone can broaden their horizons through rich variety of books in libraries, where access to the Internet and propagating of materials is possible.
Pastende Day Centre provides meaningful leisure-time activities for students and lifelong learning opportunities for adults. In collaboration with NGO AAB “Vīgrieze” courses, seminars and activities in interest groups are organized.
